Low Maintenance
When we talk about low maintenance garden plants we should be talking about perennial plants. Plants that come back every year without needing to be replanted are called perennials. Don't get me wrong I have certain plants I buy every year because well frankly they are well worth it to replant them every year these plants are called Annuals but if we are talking low maintenance then we should be talking perennials. Once you plant an perennail it will come back every year for you that is a big step in low maintenance.

3. a good garden hose that will reach your planting area
4. a good hand rake

are you trying xeriscaping? - using only drought tolerant plants and no lawn? Well, I'm not. I'd like to though. I'd like to dig up that brown lawn out there and put in low water plants in and a couple paths. I'm not the one who designs this place though, so I can only make suggestions about what we do here - its frustrating. I envy your apparent control over your garden - and would like to see a larger photo shot in addition to the close-ups. Thanks for the planter suggestions - thats the way I alleve my gardening inclination - with pots and barrels.
