Flu Symptoms
51
According to the CDC, Centers for Deaeses Control and Prevention most comon flu symtoms are:
- Headache
- Tiredness (can be extreme)
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Body aches
- Fever could be high
- Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults)
Just because you are having these symptoms it does not nessisarily always mean that you have the flu. There are many different illnesses such as the common cold that can have similar symptoms as well.
It can be very difficult to tell the difference between the flu and other infections based on the symptoms alone. Your doctor can examine you and can help to tell whether you have the flu or a complication from the flu. There are tests that can tell if you have the flu as long you are tested within the first 2 or 3 days of sickness.
If you develop symptoms that are flu-like and are worried about your illness or the illness of a loved one especially if are at high risk for complications of the flu, you should consult your doctor right away. There are people who are at higher risk namely people 65 years or older, people with chronic medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), pregnant women, and young children usually under 5 years of age. First and foremost if you are sick stay home.
I know this seems like a no brain-er but trust me it sounds easier than it truly is. I know most people have to work there is really no choice but you can at least ask for someone to switch days off with you on the main day or two you are most sick and considered highly contagious which is while you are feverish.
Always remember to wash, wash and wash your hands again & again. I know this seems mundane at this point because everyone is saying it now a days but truly the easiest most effective way not to spread the flu is to wash your hands.
Last but not least cover your nose & mouth if you cough or sneeze. I know most of our mother's taught us this one but sometimes you simply do not not think much about it. If you want to learn about the H1N1 as well as see out break maps you can go to my hub here to read more.
